New blog.
I've been meaning to write up a new blog engine for myself, but I'd been waiting on my hosting company to upgrade its Ruby version. They promised it back in November, and it's the better part of a year later without so much as an update on what kind of problems they're running into.
I'm not super mad, knowing what kind of crap can go wrong doing something like that on my own computer, just disappointed.
I was also looking into Node hosting options to run my own instance of Ghost, because I use Ember.js, and figured I could hack on whatever weird features I might want, but dealing with keeping it up to date and everything is probably more hassle than it's worth.
So I'm just paying them to host my blog and deal with whatever deployment issues. If I need anything important, I can send pull requests, since they're open source.
If that turns out to not be enough, I'll revisit my hosting decision then.
I didn't want to put off blogging anymore. It's something that I think has always been good for me. Just writing down things I'm thinking about, what I'm learning, decluttering my brain, getting ideas out. I think I've always worked better when I've written. It's easier to keep a clear head when you take the time to take things out and reflect on them. If someone else benefits, that's kind of like a bonus or something.
I've never taken to things like Twitter, because the format is too limited to yield those kinds of benefits. I have one tweet right now:
If I'd invented the Ped-Egg (http://www.pedegg.com), I would have called it the Pedo-File, and promptly made zero dollars.
Edit: I'm not sure the Ped-Egg is still a thing. That URL, at least, doesn't work. It's just an egg-shaped file that people use to take calluses off their feet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoHMd1yOBfM
I've got some things I've written down, just as scraps that I'll publish in a bit. I wanted to just get a post written before I started messing around with theming.
Edit: The Ghost repo seems kind of boned at the moment. I can't get the "stable" branch to npm install, and master has a problem on the admin page. I don't feel like doing theme tweaks and repeated uploads, or whatever hacky ripping page source right now, so I'll try again with the themes later.
